I like a girl, help

So I've always thought I was basically straight but didn't want to discount the possibility that maybe I'd like a girl someday because who knows? And...now I like a girl. I've known her a decent amount of time but we were more just acquaintances. Now we've started to hang out more and have actually stated to become friends.

Sometimes I feel like she likes me too but she's only had boyfriends in the past so I have no idea if she likes girls too. I'm too afraid to just ask her out, so a friend suggested that I should "casually" mention that I like girls (although I kind of feel like that'd be lying because she's the only girl I've liked so far) just to put the idea out there so that if she's interested she can make the first move or whatever. But I don't know that that's the right decision either.

Has anyone here ever been in this decision? Help me! (Please. :) )

I don't have any real substantive advice, but I wanted to say that you don't need any kind of bona fides about who you've previously been attracted to to "prove" that you're attracted to her. You're attracted to her and that's enough.

I just realized I meant situation at the end, not decision.

Thank you! I'm just...afraid and nervous. I mean, I don't think she's the kind of person to go "ew no you're a freak wtf stay away from me" but like...sometimes I think she likes me but then I think maybe I'm just imagining things and idk. I don't know how to word things, and maybe I'm overthinking things and I should just like...come out and say I how feel, but that seems like it would be awkward and the idea terrifies me.

Basically I'm just a total mess lol

... or maybe relax, spend time together, and see what happens? (Even if your feelings are a purely physical attraction thing, spending time together can be a good lead in.)
