My general reaction, when someone is very dramatic and secretive about a very uncommon unusual experience on the Internet, is to take it with a very large grain of salt.

That doesn't mean it's impossible, just unlikely

Having regrets is dramatic. Making them interesting for this comm more so.

Yes, exactly. I mean, I work in a medical field so you could technically describe my job in the same terms - it's government work, there's a lot of secrecy, it hugely affects people's lives, there's major penalties if I breach the secrecy, it's very stressful at times. But it's also a pretty common job.
