DA

Why?

I'd see your point if that was your reaction to "wow you have such a natural talent, I wish I was as talented as you poor me le sigh" - cause those people are clearly just making victims of themselves.

But reading that much into just plain "you're so talented" or "wow, you're a talented artist!" sounds like an issue on your end.

I mean, if a rando leaves a comment to that effect, sure, it's fine, and I assume have good intentions. But there are certain people I know who say it in a certain way that sounds like the anon I replied to. Talent = privilege.

And when some people say it to you in person, they actually scowl at you as they're saying it. Have you ever experienced that? It's very annoying, and I'm never quite sure how to respond.

Look, I've been trying to draw since I was eight years old, I have gotten the books I have practiced endlessly I have tried sketching from life I have tried references I have tried everything and I'm still just not that good at it. There is an aspect of talent, and it is a blinding privilege to be able to sit there and get offended that someone might insinuate that it wasn't 100% your hard work that did it. No one's saying you didn't work hard to get to a better place, but you had a step up that some people don't have.

Yep, that's the general attitude I'm talking about, thanks for illustrating so perfectly.

I can't tell if you're agreeing with AYRT or if you really don't think that innate abilities (often perfected or at least improved by hard work) are a thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-17 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's like I said further up. Ayrt is like those middle to ipper class white kids who believe anyone even thinking about insinuating they have a certain amount of privilege over others is a jealous McMeanipants.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-17 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you're a McMeanipants, but you're clearly jealous.

I'm sorry you can't draw no matter how hard you try. That sucks.

Aaand there go your delusions again. You seriously have issues. (For the record - I can draw and am regularly annoyed by pretentious little morons like you who give artists a bad name by acting like anyone complimenting them is out for their blood.)
