So, what, like, people are coming into your spoiler-marked fic and basically telling you "what is this midichlorians thing I don't get it oh by the way I never watched The Phantom Menace"...?

That's not gatekeeping.

now, if you were bitching about people coming into your fic marked with Thrawn spoilers and people didn't know who Thrawn was, then yeah you're kind of being a dick to the filthy casuals. But god, there is so much wiggle room here that I can't say one way or the other. There are honestly people who go into fic for an ongoing series after episode 2 and don't understand this concept introduced in episode 14 and that's 100000% on them.

No, being annoyed at people coming into a fic marked with Thrawn spoilers and complaining that they don't know who Thrawn is and it doesn't make sense still isn't being a dick. It's still on the readers for going into a fic that's clearly marked as being about a part of canon they're not familiar with.
