I think people generally underestimate how much practising goes into being 'talented'. They judge after their own experience - they would draw something in a classroom during school years of scribble for five minutes at home and conclude this 'practising' did not help them, therefore it must be the talent that does it. The fact that a person who is good at anything then goes elsewhere and spends all their free time doing that thing doesn't occur to them.

It also doesn't occur to them that art is also _taught_ just like Maths or Chemistry and without it, becoming good is rather difficult and takes even more time. ('My 3 year old son could paint this' - no, dear, he couldn't. It's the lack of understanding how art works that makes you think that.)

Talent, at best, may be an elevated interest in a subject, persistence, and some brain processing that allows you to learn quicker/notice more/connect more dots (which on itself is useless without putting effort in developing it). What people mean by talent is more like 'nature/god gave you this amazing gift and you're sort of a vessel that contains it and your conscious input into it is minimal and irrelevant'. That is annoying.

I do believe that you believe that's the case.

Ok?
