To be more clear, this person was specifically talking about Oppy in this post, but they made other posts that talked about animism in relation to Kondo.

Oppy? The Opportunity rover? Are they talking about how people were anthropomorphizing the rover and being sad it wasn't operational anymore? What does that have to do with Marie Kondo?

Marie Kondo is a Shinto animist, and apparently someone decided that animists can only show empathy to things, not people.

Then an autistic person who apparently relates more to things than people posted that with so many people anthropomorphizing and mourning the rover, they felt like people shouldn’t call them weird for only empathizing with objects but not other humans, or call them racist for (I guess?) thinking of themself as a (presumably non-Japanese) animist. Idk.
