People were suspicious because it always sounded suspicious. All the details just sound 'off,' from the attack occurring in CHICAGO of all places at 2am to the fact he didn't take off the clothes-line noose for 45 freaking minutes.

The idea that something like this would happen in Chicago is not, in and of itself, implausible.

nayr

Chicago during the Polar Vortex, though?

The idea that two people wearing MAGA hats would recognize an actor from Empire wearing winter clothes at 2am sure as fuck is.

Yes, certainly.

Along with the fact that they just so happened to be carrying around bleach and a clothes line at 2am, in a polar vortex, when they encountered a gay black semi-celebrity who was only out to get a sarnie.

I mean, if this was a bigot attack, I would recommend these bigots play the lottery, but cause clearly their luck was in.

No, I thought this was sounded hinky - but not impossible - right from the ground up.

I do not believe it is a race thing. If this had been a MAGA hat wearer describing the story of how two antifa people had done this to them at 2am in the middle of a polar vortext, I'd have called shenanigans just the same.

If the story had been in any way more plausible I'd have given more benefit of the doubt. The the recent Maajid Nawaz attack. It's still possible it was a hoax, but my gut feeling is "This could easily have happened and rings true to me." and I hope they get the bastard, btw.

Ok, I gotta give it to you, that was a smooth segue.

VERY nice work

This is my feeling. The entire situation just seemed to be such a stretch that I was suspicious from the very beginning. I could buy any one of those things singularly (people out stalking around at 2 AM, people carrying stuff to attack someone, people out in the polar vortex), but all three of them together just seemed implausible to me and made me feel like it was staged.

Like, if he'd just been beat up by the guys? Then I would have 100% believed it, because yeah, I could see a couple of drunk, angry bigots out on the streets at 2 AM after getting kicked out of a bar who run into a black guy and decide to rough him up. But the fact that they just happened to be carrying bleach and a clothesline while being out at 2 AM in a polar vortex just beggars belief to me.

Yeah, pretty much exactly.
