If I wanted to deal with homophobia, I'd step outside, not read a fic or a book. And it does tell me that person complaining that "then it's not historical fiction!" is privileged by either being straight or living in a very, very liberal area.

1. Better shake your crystal ball again, it's giving you some false information.

2. What it actually tells you is that people have different taste in fiction than you. Some people want escapism, some people want realism. Some people want escapism in X/Y/Z areas and realism in A/B/C areas, some people want escapism in A/B/C areas and escapism in X/Y/Z areas.

The secret is talking about escapism and while there are several comments saying "well that's not what I like, but you do you!" there are also a lot saying "but your escapism isn't REAL enough", which is a different statement than "we just have different tastes"
