I mean, Sam is certainly physically bigger, but traditionally masculine, take-charge partner? I thought they were both traditionally masculine? Guns, muscle cars, etc etc etc? It's been a while since I watched the show, but surely that hasn't changed......? It's also been a while since I read any SPN fanfic, but I don't remember any weepy 'uke's anywhere. O_O (Virginal is up for debate. There's that whole well of going-to-college-goodbye fic to go by, after all...)

Yeah, I too have to object to the "more traditionally masculine, take charge partner." What? They are both hypermasculine. It's the whole gun-toting, machete-swinging, never let 'em see you bleed kind of thing (although they bleed plenty.) I only wish people would point me to some bottom Dean where he isn't depicted as pint-sized, willowy, and weepy. Same problem.

Yes, this. I tend to prefer Dean as submissive because that's how I see the character. But it is really hard to find fics where he isn't weapy and tiny and not at all the character he is in canon.

I find it so frustrating that the vast majority of fics are these AUs where Cas is human and Dean is literally anything but a hunter and half the time they're both emotionally competent and really, just go write whatever the smushname is for Jensen and Misha because you sure as heck aren't writing about the characters we actually know from the show.

I don’t mind a decent smutty AU every now and then, but it bugs me when fics make Cas a total wimp who’s crying at Dean’s knees so he won’t break up with him.

Wait, I haven't watched that much Supernatural but I thought Dean was the take-charge, overprotective human disaster and Sam the more rational, less violent sacrifice victim? I'd imagined Uke Sam/Dark Fuck Prince Dean was the norm rather than the exception.

Uke Sam....really isn't. Dean is the 'damaged/frail/bottom' one a hell of a lot more often.

Well, except in bed. From what we've seen of them having sex, Dean is the giving partner who is all about pleasing his partner and likes it with girls on top while Sam is the take charge, forceful one in bed.

OMG my best fannish friend is so into Dark Fuck Prince Dean, and she's always saying I gotta read this but really Dean's not actually like this in canon, he's always letting his partner be on top and was totally confused by the concept of "angry sex" with Bela.

I mean, YKINMKATOK but my kink is in-character fic so Dark Fuck Prince Den is really not doing it for me.

OP should check out Person of Interest, where the fandom collectively decided that John Reese (6'2" badass ex-CIA agent) is the bottom and Harold Finch (5'9" cute nerd with glasses) is the top.
