Why do you feel guilty? If you can afford it and it makes you happy, I don’t see the problem.

That inner voice from my parents telling me I shouldn't waste money, I suppose...

Ah, I have that too. Took me a few years to turn it off. I tended to yell at it and say, “I paid my bills, I have money in my savings account, and there’s food in the fridge, so I deserve these tickets to see Panic! At the Disco.”

there are worse things you can spend your money on. it's not like it's meth or heroin or something

Don't beat yourself up, anon. If we only used our money for stuff that was conventionally "useful" or "important," we'd all be a lot more miserable. If you can afford it, then why not?

I used to bid for doujinshi on eBay. I spent way more than I should have. At one point I moved and I put them all in a suitcase at my dad's house but the suitcase disappeared. Probably one of the boarders took it, which means there's some random person out there looking at pictures of anime characters having sex and wondering if they belonged to my dad. Oops.

Hoo boy, bidding on ebay sounds like an endless black hole I shouldn't go near for the sake of my wallet.

Also that's exactly the reason why I have a squick factor towards physical copies of porn/smut related things...My logical side says everyone has looked at their share of porn, it's natural and normal and a healthy attitude towards it is much better than an endless cycle of shaming. My emotional side is just HELL NO I CAN'T I DON'T WANT TO KNOW YOURS AND I DON'T WANT YOU FINDING OUT ABOUT MINE GO AWAY AAAAAAAAAAA

But also, did someone steal from your dad's house O___O

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
My dad rented out rooms in his house to people he didn't know, and during that time he was mostly at his girlfriend's house and not there and some stuff disappeared. Nothing extremely valuable because we didn't really have anything like that but some nice dishes, some not-that-expensive jewelry, and apparently a suitcase full of doujinshi.

People also left things. I still have a nice lamp that was left there.

If you're spending money you can't afford to spend, then I'd say don't beat yourself up about it, but do commit to not buying any more for a while.

But if you can afford to spend that money, and you feel that you are generally in control of your spending, then good for you for spending it on something you enjoy, OP. It's your money, you earned it. I've never bought a doujinshi in my life, but I think it's just as good of a thing to spend your money on as anything I might spend my money on - better than some of the stuff I spend my money on, honestly.

If you're spending money you can't afford to spend, then I'd say don't beat yourself up about it, but do commit to not buying any more for a while.

I disagree. Better to take a hint from Robin Hood and steal from the rich so you can give to the poor (you) or commit tax fraud, but in the smart manner

Now I'm wondering if I subconsciously wanted reassurance, since that seems to be what most people commented on. xD When I made the secret I thought it was mostly about the desire to share the fact that I'm buying doujinshis (something I can't/won't share with anyone in real life), with just a hint of guilt because money. But I guess no1curr about the doujin part cause this is "fandom" secrets, lol.

It can be hard to get it through your own mind but like you said, if you can afford it and isn't over spending, whatever you've spent money on is just as valid as my silly doujinshis! :D
