In her defense, her cat appears extremely chill with being carried that way in all three of those pictures. Maybe she carries it that way because that's how it responds best to being carried. *shrugs*

It’s not a particularly safe way to carry an unsecured cat through city traffic and sometimes a responsible pet owner has to put a cat in a harness or a carrier even if it’s not the cat’s favorite thing. But it’s possible that the poor baby has so many other issues that being carried around with her legs dangling in the air and all her weight resting on her stomach and chest is the least uncomfortable option.

From what I read in an interview, this is how she carries her cat from the lobby of her building to her vehicle. She's not, like, out for a stroll with her cat on her arm. And again, given how entirely chill the cat appears to be in not just one, but all three of these images, I highly doubt it is in pain. I have never in my life met a cat that responds to being held in a way it doesn't like by laying there entirely calmly.

This seems very much like looking for a reason to be critical of Taylor Swift.

Olivia Benson is arthritic, and she's absolutely in pain or drugged out of her gourd. Taylor Swift lives on a busy street and most non-feral cats that get hit by cars aren't very far from home when it happens. Cats shouldn't be riding unsecured in vehicles. Also, that's not happy cat body language. Taylor Swift's alright by me, but she's not excelling at cat ownership in those pictures.
