Authors, what's your hits/kudos ratio for fic? Do you mostly get the same for fics in the same fandom, or is it all over the place?

1.44% pretty much across the board

Sometimes a bit higher if it's a popular pairing from a just-released movie.

3%

Not sure how useful this statistic is though, since places like AO3 count multiple hits from the same person as a hit. And you can't kudos things every time.

*multiple hits from the same person as multiple hits, I mean. So one person reading 3x counts as 3, which makes the ratio not mean much

It's meaningful for comparing things on the same platform, at least.

If I re-read a fic I already kudosed, I open it on an incognito window so I can leave an anonymous kudos.

It's infinite as I've never published a fic.

fandom doesn't matter, it's all about the pairing. super popular juggernaut pairing? like a 1:10 ratio at best. but those also have the most bookmarks and comments. pairing where I'm the only author in the whole fandom? much closer to 1:6 but when you only get 100 hits it doesn't feel great.

but I'm still really proud of my monster 98 chapter fic in a really small fandom that has thousands of hits and still maintains a 1:6 or 1:7 ratio. I've known some readers to log out so they can leave guest kudos so it's not necessarily more readers, but everyone who reads it is hardcore into it and I love it.

I rarely write much for the same fandom. But, overall... about 10-15%?

So I have two fandoms on my AO3. Fandom A is around 1:6 to 1:10. They're gen fics.

Fandom B is a bit worse on that front 1:8 to 1:15. That's some romance and some gen.

The biggest outlier is my most popular fic for fandom B, which is one of the most popular fics to that pair in a semi-popular fandom. That's nearing 1:20, but it also has about 20 times the views than any other fic of mine and way way more bookmarks than anything else.

Before I stopped keeping tracks of hits, it was around 1:10. In the first week, anything goes after that.

But, knowing that 9/10 people were opening up my story and not responding was stressing me out. (Did they not like it? Did I tag misleadingly and give a disappoint? What's wrong with my writing!?)

In the end, I could keep reminding myself that some readers are just like that with every bloody story I posted, or I could turn off the hit counter. Much more restful now!
