Let's be real, a lot of knee-jerk contrarianism has maybe an hour of research behind it at best too, right?

There's a neutral ground between agreeing automatically with the group consensus and being contrarian on purpose though - especially if it's to the point of not even knowing if you really stand for what you say. "I need more info before making a decision" is an option you can take without going "I disagree, just because I prefer to disagree."
