Not necessarily. It's one thing to show recuperation as a realistically slow, frustrating process, but realism isn't why fandom does it. Fandom does it because hurt/comfort is a big kink for a lot of people and dwelling on that in loving detail to that degree is fan service, not necessarily good writing.
