I empathize anon. Some secrets - even fairly tame secrets - I just won't make because I know how hostile this comm can be about certain topics/opinions.

It's not fun dealing with needlessly harsh people who seem intent on interpreting your words in the worst possible way.

People can be real jerks. My beef is when comments either deliberately misunderstand or simply don't read the secret thoroughly and respond rudely.

I left the comm entirely for a few months. TBH, it made my life better. I've been peeking in again lately and I'm not sure if that's smart of me or not!

I'm not sure "just ignore meanness" truly works, or at least not for everyone. It does make places hostile, anywhere that people can do driveby anon nastiness. That's gonna become an unpleasant corner of the world. Maybe an unnecessary one, depending on what you want in life.

I mean, the community doesn't seem to be growing, so I'm not the only one starting to think this kind of thing

I sympathize with you Nonny, for I too have felt this about f!s in times past.

I was utterly shredded for two of my secrets and they were both completely innocuous. One was about only having a military uniform fetish after watching stargate and the other was about how I was confused that Americans thought Europeans would view apple pie as American when we all have different native versions over here. Jesus, you'd have thought I shot a puppy for that one.

It's really funny(and a tad depressing) to see that you were still so salty about a shitstorm you caused by not doing research, and acted like a huge asshole to everyone who dared to have a counter opinion.

I don't mind hostile comments if they agree with me :^)

Much more frustrating for me is somehow every time people either miss the point of the secret completely, or oversimplify and dismiss it.
