Aww, glad you found something you enjoy so much, OP! It's one of my comfort watch shows too, also because my dad used to watch it all the time.

This is such a sweet secret! It’s one of my favorite shows of all time, and I’m always so happy to hear someone else really loving it. Also, season 3 is where the show really hits its stride; it gets so good from here on out. I’m excited for you!

Out of curiosity, how did you feel about Dr. Pulaski? Even at the time she was a really polarizing character, and while my first time through I thought she was jarring and didn’t fit into the rest of the crew very well (and I felt that they were just trying to do another McCoy), in subsequent watches I’ve actually grown more fond of her.

interesting. she does seem to be the least popular character. Even people who liked Wesley didn't like her.

Yeah, people got super attached to Dr. Crusher in S1, so when her character was replaced due to higher-ups having Roddenberry write her out, I think there was already going to be some backlash in place. And then Dr. Pulaski was just so different and didn’t really have good rapport with anyone (at first) that it just deepened the wounds. I’m still glad that the campaign to get Gates McFadden back worked, but sometimes I wonder what might have been if Pulaski had stuck around (maybe even as an assistant to Dr. Crusher?) and integrated into the crew a bit more. There weren’t really any other “saucy old bastard” characters, hahaha.

Awww, I love TNG as well so I'm super happy to hear that you're loving it OP. I hope you have a grand time watching it all through even if you'll be sad to finish it(but just think: it's always there for you to rewatch if you want :)).

While it's true that the first, relatively unspoiled watch of a show you get into is a lot of fun, I think that rewatching the show will have its own pleasures as well.

For me, there are a couple of shows that I never tire of rewatching, because each time through I pick up more small details, savor the little background reactions, admire the skillful foreshadowing, and so on.

This was the Star Trek I grew up with (DS9, too, but TNG was first). It's a great show and I think it's aged pretty well, all things considered.

It really is such a comforting watch. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

If you like the oneshot sci-fi episodes best, go for TOS then JJverse or VOY next. If you like the arcs, go for DS9. After those, try ENT and DIS. Each series is slightly different but all have a smattering of great episodes.

This was me a couple of months ago. I could've written this secret! I'm so happy you're having fun with TNG. It gets better and better with every series. But yeah... avoiding spoilers. I managed to get by okay but a friend I binged the show with in December who likes looking stuff up on Google/searching Tumblr tags for characters/reading fic on AO3, etc. got spoiled for pretty much every big plot point. I'd recommend avoiding any of that, even if you feel a bit isolated while watching. It's worth it not to know!

Oooh it's great to see a TNG secret here! Have fun with the show, OP! :)

Omg,sis, is that you?

I swear my sister just got into this show recently, as evidenced from her FB posts and they are along the same vein. Our dad was with us at night while our mom worked, and he watched this all the time, so we saw it by extension. He had all these collectibles and things, but she never got INTO it until now.

Just seeing this now, at the same time, cracks me up.
