104) It's hard because it hits too close to home for you to treat it as strictly entertainment. For me it's children. Having had two of my own, I can no longer bear to read about bad things happening to children. Even if it's off camera, it just makes me sick to my stomach to think of a small child being terrorized, hurt or killed. I cross my fingers during movies and TV shows where small children show up and grit my teeth hoping that nothing will happen to them. A movie like Cujo is now completely unbearable. The good thing about Non-con is that most people have the good graces to label theirs as such, so you can easily avoid it. Just remind yourself that a large part of fantasy's appeal comes with the ability to safely enjoy things that have serious real life consequences -- Don't do this at home!

107) There is something heady about being the center of someone's attention, such that you can't fail with them. It's amazingly affirming. Of course the reality of it isn't nearly as awesome as the fantasy of it, but who the hell reads stories for reality.

Yeah, I was kind of unsure about using them as an example, since I remembered thinking that they had a lot of issues to work out in their relationship as I was watching the show itself.

They're still the healthiest, most familial connection they each have, though, and do seem to have a fairly commendable desire to fix the relationship, at least eventually...which may be why I just cannot see incest being IC for them. I've seen the "they've committed so many sins, what's one more?" argument thrown about a lot to justify the ICness of Elricest, but I think that misses the point; not all sinners will commit all sins, and as screwed up as they are, Ed and Al want too badly to be good brothers for that one to even occur to them.

That's just my take, though. I don't think most Elricest shippers are sick/disturbed/whatever, I just don't agree with the characterization.
