the idea of the OP thinking, in her mind, not even voicing her thoughts, that she thought someone experiencing rape firsthand would teach them sensitivity is ENTIRELY fucking different from someone having a rape fantasy.
the only person i'd be harming by having a rape fantasy is myself, my perpetuating certain issues i might have.
someone wishing rape upon another person, even just secretly, in their head, where no one could EVER see, is absolutely fucking sick.
if she'd truly been through a trauma like that, she'd never wish it on anyone, except perhaps her attacker.

well, they're fake, people. as the argument has been all along, it's fiction.
i understand entirely that, when the OP feels uncomfortable about a discussion or a particular topic of conversation, due to past experiences, that when s/he voices this, it would be expected to end there. no arguments. unless you're a total jackass, you shouldn't go around consciously trying to make people uncomfortable.
but i also see some of the anger happening here. mostly from the small bit about wishing people would experience rape firsthand, even if it is an entirely passing thought, and maybe even one that has only occured to him/her once or twice.
i guess i see both sides. and i'm not a totaly bitch, so i understand the need for sensitivity here. it's not babying her, nothing like that. it's being a decent human being and understanding when a line is about to be crossed. and making a choice not to cross that line.

She's not actually wishing rape on anybody. She's resenting the fact that these people can talk about rape comfortably in a way that she can't. I think occasionally thinking angry, vicious thoughts is probably a totally normal reaction to rape (not that everyone reacts to rape the same). Hell, it's a normal human reaction to things a lot more petty than that. I think it's better to accept the thought for what it is than say it's a wrong, bad way to react to getting attacked.

And like I said before, I'm not going to draw the line between real people and fictional characters because people write non-con RPF and defend it for the same reason, it's fiction. And isn't she just perpetuating her own issues? If she never outright tells the ficcers to their face or on LJ "I think you should be raped," how is she harming anyone but herself? Not mention, writing rapefic and posting it on the internet for all to see goes beyond having a rape fantasy in your own head; not only does it perpetuate one's own issues, it perpetuates the issues of the people who choose to read it, as well as the people in that fandom who have actually been raped IRL.
I appreciate that you understand why the OP is upset, but I also think that the line you draw between the different motivations of having rape fantasies is completely arbitrary. IMHO, if you're going to defend someone's right to fantasize about rape as a sexual fantasy, then you can't deny someone else's right to fantasize about rape as a violent fantasty. Or else we're going to wind up shouting "Thought Police!" back and forth at each other, and no one wants that.
