Iirc it was a long-standing fan theory anyway that the TARDIS was doing things like deliberately taking The Doctor to places he was needed (even if he hadn't asked to go there.) The idea that she was conscious and The Doctor cares for her beyond simply being a means of transport isn't unusual to me so you do you if this is your preferred love story!

Also the show-runners of the 2005 revival seem to be with you even before The Doctor's Wife e.g. references to him caressing the console and talking to the TARDIS when Rose meets Sarah Jane.

I just feel like... I mean, come on, it's a nice idea, but the TARDIS is not actually a character, outside of one episode. It's just a thing people say.

i'd say there are absolutely inanimate objects in tv and film which have enough about them to qualify as characters in their own right - the bluesmobile, the city of sin city and the town of springfield come most immediately to mind

and that's before getting into the fact that the tardis clearly has at least some form of sentience

The Doctor outright has said the TARDIS is alive in its own right in multiple episodes, it just happens to be contained in something object-shaped instead of person-shaped.

I really love that she referred to Rory as the pretty one!
