Re: Health Insurance

I don't mind the idea of health insurance existing, but it absolutely cannot be the primary means of funding healthcare.

I think one of the good things about the health care debate over the ACA has been that the debate now seems to take as an assumption that everyone should have coverage - you see that in the debates over pre-existing conditions and also in the rhetoric, on the other side, about death panels and such. And once you reach that point, it's just painfully obvious that private insurance is wildly badly suited to performing that function, and that allowing it to do so actually does lead to poorer health outcomes and impoverishment and people dying. And it's politically difficult, because the scope of the changes required is so significant, but it fucking has to change. No two ways about it.
