If it makes you feel any better, you were kinder and more helpful than I probably would've been.

I feel like a person who has really been robbed either goes to a bus stop and asks someone to pay their bus fare to get home, or asks for bus fare to get to the police station. Or if they're visiting a different city and they don't know anyone they can stay with and for some reason the police have failed to help them, they might ask someone to buy them coffee at Denny's or some other casual place where they can spend the night in doors.

Simply asking people for money, period, does not strike me as how most people would handle the situation if they really had been robbed and were trying to figure out a game plan to deal with it.
