TB!1 You're not the only one. I mean, some of us are actually straight, you know.
105 Why is it that people who aren't into anime always pic the most "OMG ANIME" type of anime to like as their "one anime"?? I had this friend who was super into Blood+ for some random reason, even though she never watched anime at all, and this was about a year before it was licensed, so she had to go out of her way to find fansubs of it. There are plenty of anime with more down-to-earth premises, or more Western themes, plotlines, and structures, but not-anime people always go with the series that just reek of a stereotype.
108 I guess it's prevalent because nobody wants to write fanfiction unless it involves relationships, or else it would be boring. What else is there to write about for most series, really? (And non-sexual romantic fanfic is just as gratitutious... so you might as well write smut).
110 Not every guy like the kind you just described is a rapist. So you can't blame yourself for your rape, it's not your fault. (Though I guess a lot of rape victims probably blame themselves for it, but still, you shouldn't.)
115 People were hating her hardcore even before eps 20 and 21. I don't get it either. I still maintain that people would hate Minmei hardcore if the original Macross was airing today, with the internet and fansubs and everything. Of course, some people still hate Minmei, even though she matures by the end of the show and you know, fucking saves humanity and everything.

115: I actually just finished original Macross about a month ago. I adored Minmay! ^^ I've also disliked Ranka since episode 1. Not a fan of that type of character. >.>

I have to admit that I started out hating Minmei when I watched Macross, but then I remembered that she's 15 when the show starts, and by the end of the show she's been through a lot and matured into an adult. (And again, the whole saving the world by fostering peaceful relations between two different cultures thing.)

The way I see it, Rannka is basically Minmei 2.0 -- her character isn't that far removed from Minmei's. They share a lot of similarities. I mean, Frontier itself is kind of a retelling of Macross anyway, since they made it for the 25th anniversary.

I never understood the Minmei hate (maybe because I've always liked her, I don't know). I mean, I could understand people not liking her because of this or that, but I have no idea where this "RARRGH MINMEI HURR HURR" sentiment is coming from (except in case of rabid Misa supporters). Sometimes I think most Minmei haters haven't even watched the original Macross, just copy what other fans do in order to seem less like a noob.

And it's not like shipping wars even apply in Macross. I mean, I like Misa more than Minmei, and I'm glad she ends up with Hikaru, but that doesn't mean I hate Minmei. They're all good characters.
