Not the person above- of course- but I was just about to 'word' her, so I guess from my point of view, it IS a stupid reason. Not because of preferences (I like the whole cast pretty damn equally, even a LOT of the minor characters)... but because deciding that the temporary disappearance of one character that you'll see again if you actually keep playing, and the replacement of her by a character you don't like that is ALSO only in a bit over a third of the game, seems pretty petty. If the OP cared about the storyline or any of the other characters besides Shiki (Neku himself? Beat? Hanekoma? Minamimoto? Rhyme- okay not the best example. Uh. Anyone? Bueller?), that one switch that only lasts for a portion of the game wouldn't be a total deterrant. That would be like refusing to watch an entire show/series/movie that is full of characters you really like and a plot/storyline/etc you love just because you dislike one of the characters that's not even in a majority of the canon.
