Well, it does make everything less fun, especially when you go in with unreasonably high expectations that things aren't going to be as they are/have always been. Sure, some evolution can be nice, but that stuff doesn't happen overnight - sometimes it doesn't happen at all. What does happen, is people grow out of viewing habits and preferences.

Personally, I think fans (not just in this fandom, but across the board) usually hold writers to impossible standards --by which their best work ever is somehow expected to be the new norm-- and usually don't know how to let go. Of course writers are going to make mistakes; show me a flawless show and I'll show you a biased fan.

I'm not saying Bones is perfect, far from it, but my feeling is there is a myriad things to enjoy in it, and I was appalled to discover so many fans are blinded to it by (what I feel are) trivial and/or convoluted concerns.

Obviously, your mileage varies and we aren't going to agree, but coming to the main LJ comm after happily viewing the first three seasons this summer, I was tremendously surprised to see so much negativity so bluntly flung about. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was scary, but overpowering for sure, and I know it's made me wary of posting to or reading it. Which is rather inconvenient for me, being new to the fandom and all. You see where my trouble lies.

Anyway, secret was made before daysofourbones was set up (or at least, advertised) and I must say I'll be quite pleased with this recent development if people start using it for its right purpose.

Sure, criticism always detracts from the fans who aren't in the fandom to do that, and I've been on that side of a fandom before. Inevitably, it happens. Disappointed fans will happen. This is as much fandom's purpose as fluff is.

In the case of Bones, though, they have the convenient event of major changes in Season 3's finale, and inconsistent writing due to Season 3's leftovers being passed off onto Season 4. So yep, I'm one of the bitter fans. The show hasn't moved on and developed the way I hoped it would have.

I'm dumbfounded how anyone who has watched the show from day 1 can call this show "fun, bubbly, uplifting and happy." I can understand someone who just started watching S4, but not if they really knew the characters.

This was created to be a drama about broken, damaged people just like the corpses they came in contact with on each case. It was a show about serial killers and snipers and the thin line between them. About being abandoned and abused. About never fitting in but wanting desperately to. About being tortured and refusing to let that torture defeat them.

And in the course of putting the faces back on the bones and giving the dead their voices back, these misfits came together in spite of their deep pains and became friends and lovers and...a family.

That's the show I was sold on and the show I trusted the writers to give me. They are failing on an epic scale. If they somehow get back to the spine of this show, then I could agree that it could be "uplifting." Otherwise, the fun, bubbly and happy aspects just depress me.
