How old is your house/building?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-08 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Just curious because I'm house hunting atm. Most of the houses near me are 19th century.

This was only built about 5 years ago.

Most houses are maybe from the 70s around here?

The apartment building in which I live is as old as me, 31 years.

I just moved from an 1850s end terrace to a newish semi, about 1930 I think. I've never lived in a house of this period and the ceilings feel kind of claustrophobically low, but the deco style is growing on me. It does have original stained glass in the front which makes it very cold but is extremely pretty.

I believe mine was built sometime in the 60s, so not that old.

About 70? It and most of the houses in my street were built in the late "40s. It's been added onto a bunch of times, with varying levels of competence.
Our old house was built around 1890, though, and it had some i s s u e s.

foundation and general structure 500 years; of course, renovated half a million times since then, most recently the basement a few years ago. So... yeah, the out-er shell has the same general SHAPE as it always have, but... yeah, interior is mostly in the state it was since the 70s.

My house was built in 1948, same year my mother was born! I had sworn I wouldn't buy a post-war house, but it turns out I can live with late-40s and the older houses tend to be larger and were just not in budget.

2007, I think.

Was built in 1984

1947. I wish it was from the 19th century—which counts as old around here—instead. On the other hand, so many similar tract houses in my neighborhood are being gutted down to the studs and turned into lot-filling McMansion horrors that I feel a bit like I live in Carl’s house from Up, except instead of high rises I’m surrounded by three-car garages.

Dude, no idea?

This whole development I'm in apparently went up in the 70's, but England has trash taste in architecture so everything looks the goddamn same regardless of when it was built.

Late 70s.

I live in the postwar 'burbs of Silicon Valley so 1948-1952-ish. The sidewalks in my neighborhood were poured between those dates (they're very clearly marked and dated), so houses were probably built around the same time.

I'm just surprised at how many people know the answer. I've never thought about wondering how old any the buildings I lived in were, and the landlords never gave that information themselves.

1300s. It's an old medieval gatehouse that's been turned into a house. Pretty cosy. Got its quirks.

Around 1970 I think. The house was built on a former community park. We've always wondered what coins/jewellery/etc we might find if went through with a metal detector and a shovel.

It was built in 1998.

This one is around 2000, however our previous house was 1888. I did love some of the features of it :)
