Am I the only one who just doesn't care anymore? This all seems like small petty stuff being blown up into the equivalence of a war crime. Every damn day there's some new minor news story like this being chowed out by the Internet outrage machine.

so holding someone accountable is a war crime now? interesting

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it really depends on what you think being held accountable means. Losing his job as a consequence of his actions? Absolutely. Everyone jumping on the outrage train as per usual? Not so much.

NAYRT

First, what constitutes "everyone jumping on the outrage train as usual". Second, I don't really believe that anyone in a position of power will ever be held accountable for anything ever in any meaningful sense without external pressure.

Well I can't argue with that second point. But that is effectively vigilante justice, and in an era of fake news and easily manipulated social media users, yeah that system is always going to be fair and not easily abused. /sarcasm

It's definitely vulnerable to manipulation and people need to do their best to be reasonable, and not believe things blindly, and try to be fair. But what should people do instead?

You are right. Sometimes it ends up badly used. But between this and the alternative of the way things used to be where no one got called out for anything and people got away with casual racism, sexism, etc. then I'll take what we have now in a heartbeat.

My reaction to this amounted to thinking he was shitty and shouldn’t keep his job; he’s hardly living rent-free in my brain. Since I didn’t read his stuff to start with and had never heard of him before the story broke, it cost me nothing to say he was a pathetic loser.

It was a dumb, bad minor thing that I thought was dumb and bad, and then I moved on with my life, and then somebody mentioned it again so it came up again

What are you asking for here

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
No, you're not the only one who just doesn't care, and god FS has gotten extra outragey lately. Or maybe I'm just extra tired of it.
