Huh. Yeah that is a weird one. Unintended I suspect, because there’s very much the culture of having an Indian or a Chinese meal as a once off treat here. I don’t think tbh it necessarily occurs to people that people with that cultural background might eat meals from their culture every night, even though when pointed out it's bleeding obvious.

It's a weird form of racism i've been seeing everywhere at tge moment. Like the Latinas on Rupaul's drag race being criticised for only doing Latin style in their drag. Again don't think it's intentional but it's definitely worth starting conversations about.

SA Just to be clear, I referred to having an Indian or a Chinese because outside of the biggest cities that's the only takeaway you get in the UK. And most people wouldn't have a clue on how to distinguish between say Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine anyway.

But when I said 'with that cultural background' I meant to say 'with another cultural background'. As there are many cultural backgrounds here in thw uk.

Yeah... I don't think they intended it, nor did they do it maliciously, but it's still pretty racist. I quickly became uncomfortable with how white/British-centric the show was, even as one of its judges was Bangledeshi. It felt like they were trying to capitalize off Nadiya's fame from being a GBBO winner, making a half hearted effort to be diverse by including POC families... and then falling at the final hurdle.
