I know what you mean OP. It could be confirmation bias but I've known several artists who draw this "soft and gentle" stuff while their own personality is a giant heap of bitterness and toxicity.

In contrast a few of the kindest people I know tend to draw some nasty horror shit. Maybe there's some logic behind this but I'm not an expert on, uhh, artist psychology.

One of the reasons would be that the kindest people know they draw nasty horror shit, but wouldn't force to anybody to stare at the drawings if said person do not like it (or understand is not someone else's jam). Meanwhile antis usually claim you're homo/transphobic or racist or any shit like that if you're not into their art/themes.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but for me, creative outlets are how I let the darker side of me out. I would never, EVER want to hurt an actual person, and suffering IRL always brings me to tears. It's kind of like how some people work out to let off steam after they get pissed off.

I also can't help but wonder if it's why, for example, Japanese society is so rigid, but some of the most disturbing stuff comes from there. Conformity is expected in every day life, so they "lash out" in a socially acceptable way for their culture. *ponders*

I never thought about it that way, but it would make sense.

It is. Look at other super-ridged societies, then dig deeper until you find their porn. It's pretty much the same as Japanese porn.

Like Klingons? ;)
