What I've seen of the MCU, I saw after having observed the fandom for years. And yeah, me too, anon. Me too.

This happens to quite a few of the secondary characters imo. I do recognise that a 2 hour film 2-3 times a year doesn't lend itself to quite as much character development as you can do with a TV show but yeah...it's a bummer when a character you like is seemingly being set up to be heavily involved in something and then just isn't.

Though there has been speculation about Stan's picture deal and how involved he will be going forward iirc.

As a huge fangirl, I'm satisfied with his level of involvement. But I didn't see any previews or promos before I saw the movie, so if those gave the impression his involvement was greater, I could see how someone might think that was the case.

I hope he'll have a role in the Black Widow movie.

I also thought he'd play a bigger role after TWS. I suspect he would have, if they hadn't decided to do Civil War for CA3.

Well, when Tony Stark has to be the main character of every movie... I guess we just have to miss out on why these characters actually exist...
I agree, he should have played at least a half starring role in 'Civil War', especially given it was his own movie... Ugh. I won't even mention the rest.

I thought Civil War was supposed to be a Cap movie? Bucky doesn’t get a movie because he kind of sucks.
