I just remember Andrew implying that the only reason he picked on other kids was that his father encouraged him to, and Bender implying that part of why he was an asshole was that he was abused. (Not to make light of abuse.) So in my mind some of it was about "See, these kids are all nice and all get along when mean adults don't pit them against each other." But I think some of it rang true for me too.
