It bothered me too. On top of the emotional bond... the whole Gift of the Night Fury short was built on the fact that not even a year with their dragons and already Vikings couldn't cope with them going away, and contrary to the cartoon series, this was supposed to be as canon as the movies? and six years later, no, they ALL selflessly send their dragons away? none of them tries to keep them?

Do people really not realize that only Harry does this, and it's very much a character flaw of his? I mean, the novella "Backup" is 10000% Thomas making fun of Harry for being so easily led around by the nose by a pretty girl, and he's a literal incubus.
