Same. My word.

What fandoms are you in where this is a thing?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
This seems very common to me across a lot of fandoms - except the "sexless" part maybe, but even when there is smut its pretty anemic. Definitely in Doctor Who femslash, definitely in Supergirl. Just off the top of my head.

I see a push for this in children’s fandoms, but I think the relevant factor is “children,” not “lesbian.”

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't stop the slash or honry pin-ups from being absolutely filthy though.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I see a lot of it in animanga fandoms too- women/lesbians are FLAWLESS QUEENS and maybe you'll get a couple shitty "I wish X would step on me" posts but most of the actual content is so tepid and wishy-washy, and sometimes antis get in on the fun, telling anyone who writes femslash with darker themes that they obviously hate women and lesbians and that's why they wrote about the hot ladies dubconning each other.

I feel secret maker deeply.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think the most baffling thing to me is definitely the gap between STEP ON ME and actual fic

Bring that energy into the fiction! Please! I'm begging!

It's tough, because I have a very strong inclination to Support The Kids under any circumstances, and I guess that's what they want, but, yeah, it's very uninteresting and uninspiring and I don't think it does anyone any favors over the long run.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
God, agreed. I’m a dark f/f fan and lesbian and I’m hard up for content.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even need dark! I just want, like. Real.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
the 2016 ghostbusters fandom was pretty decent about women fucking other women but it came and died and I'm sad now. come on sequel!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Any recs, anon?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's valid, anon!

I think fandom might be the happy place for a lot of people like me who are sick of depressing canon that keeps killing off the gays.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing in the secret has anything to do with killing off the gays though?

Took the words right out of my mouth

(Anonymous) 2019-03-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
UGH HARD SAME I'm so fucking tired of this "pure cinnamon roll uwu" bullshit. Give me complex relationships, give me rival femslash, give me good hot fucking, I'm sick and tired of pure lesbians.

I saw a post talking about how most WLW couples in fandoms are always portrayed as serious 'mom' types while all MLW get to be silly and weird, and for the most part, I think that's true

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I wish WLW couples were portrayed as serious responsible "mom" types because that is extremely my thing. Please send all of those ships my way as soon as possible. That is a newsletter I want to subscribe to.

IME it's more like they get portrayed as a young baby gay's idea of what an adult looks like. All flowers and hand holding and sweetness. Which makes sense! That's a lot of who's in the fandom, that's what they want, and that's fine. Just not what I am looking for.

I could not agree more!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
You'll find that a majority of those are written that way because they are designed to cater to straight males and their impressions of optimal... er, situations. It's appealing when directed towards themselves, so as a general rule two girls should clearly equate twice the fluffy uwu'y-ness.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
The f/f fic I usually assume is written by dudes is the objectifying pornographic stuff that doesn't even pretend to care about the characters, not the fluffy uwu cuteness stuff. Could be wrong.

uh, that's not been my experience at all, men writing f/f is the same as women writing m/m, it's nothing but emotionless dirty porn.

the ppl writing the fluffy shit are actually wlw themselves.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Same. This isn't even just a fandom thing, I'm tired of the general public perception that lesbians have no sex drive or don't feel just as aroused at the sight of a naked lady like straight men do.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-14 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really glad for the trend, because I enjoy femslash but dark!fic too often has stuff that reminds me of the woman who assaulted me and I have to nope out :(

Though the sexless thing is dumb. Give me fluffy lighthearted porn where the gals are tender with one another plz
