Watergate and to a lesser extent the moon landing (I was just 2 when that happened).

We're about the same age apparently. Watergate is the first one I remember too. My mom let me stay up to watch Nixon resign. It was boring to me though.

I remember watching Nixon give the resignation speech when I was a kid but I DEFINITELY remember it being in the afternoon.

I remember my mother sitting me down in front of the TV. I guess it must not have been a question of "staying up." (And now that I think about it it doesn't make much sense that it would be at night.)

I remember the moon landing; I was 10 at the time. One giant leap indeed - how come we haven't made another such leap in the last 50 years?

I remember Watergate and thinking what an embarrassing mess it was. ha-ha, joke's on me. /Brit
