Yeah, I agree.

This is my very own opinion as a non-american but from what I've observed, it seems they are afraid of writting other cultures out of fear of backlash usually from other americans. There's also the fear of getting called for cultural appropiation. There's also the fear of offending people of other ethnicities or cultures that aren't american cultures. So they play it safe with the dark skin and other odd traits they can think of because they are familiar with those.
