Had an media ever affected you enough to actually give you nightmares?

What was the nightmare about?

Absolutely any horror movie. Doesn't matter how cheesy or dumb. I hate horror and disturbing imagery, even if I know it's fake and stupid I can't get it out of my head when I try to sleep.

Doki Doki Literature Club gave me nightmares, too.

I have *created* media that gave someone nightmares... Does that count?

(It was a live action role-playing scenario with a context shift near the end, so the players realised the annoying boarding house they were were stuck in, and the delicious cake, were... not. And stuff.)

After I played Silent Hill 2 I had vivid nightmares about Pyramid Head. I had a bunch of different ones, mostly that he was stalking me. Some of them seemed silly when I woke up. For example I dreamed he lived in the dining room at my work and every time I wanted to go set the table I had to run in with a shotgun and start shooting around randomly so he wouldn't come in.

I had nightmares forever after watching a bunch of fire safety psa type stuff in middle school. I honestly don't even remember the videos, but I still remember the very graphic realistic dreams of my house on fire.

Also used to have nightmares about crocodiles dragging me underwater and drowning me after watching crocodile dundee....

When I was in first grade, we were learning about earthquakes and the teacher decided to play some tape detailing all the horrible damages buildings incur during earthquakes. I remember seeing a dead person's hand poking out of a collapsed building and had nightmares for days afterwards.

When I was younger I could, sometimes, actually hear my own heartbeat. That combined with watching 'The Land before Time' on a near daily basis gave me so many nightmares about T-rexes. Sharptooth was the most terrifying creature I had ever seen.

I get you.

I usually love true crime, but I felt very uncomfortable watching it.

When we did Mcbeth in year 4 we watched a cartoon movie of the play, Banqous ghost in that gave me such horrible nightmares that night that my mum took me off school the next day so I could get some proper rest and she sat with me as I slept on the sofa downstairs.

Bizarrely, only a fanfic ever managed that. A firefly fic which envolved pretty standard firefly reaver horror but which somehow had one line that wasn't even gorey or the-other-possible-trigger-with-reavers-y but just ... STUCK with me enough that the specific injury involved or the threat of it does pop up in my nightmares every now and again :/
