Yeah, I agree. I have a pet peeve for characters doing incredibly stupid things because, essentially, the plot demands it, and this was definitely an example of that.

This 'incredibly stupid thing' was absolutely in character for Klaus, though, aside from being needed for plot.

Oh, I agree completely. But in this particular case, there's a strong argument that it's in character for Klaus who is the poster child of bad decision making. It still feels very convenient, but it's not as egregious of a case as some.
