I vaguely remember hearing that him being in Toomb Raider (I think the sequel?) delayed a latter-day Red Dwarf season.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-16 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, given that those two films were 2001 and 2003 and there were no RD episodes between 1999 and 2009, that would be some serious delaying!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-16 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
there was a big delay between s6 and 7 (1993-1997) because of craig charles being accused (and cleared) of rape

it doesn't take a lot for a small delay to become a big one and completely derail a show :( (remember the 1999-2009 delay involved a channel change as well - after a certain amount of time had passed you have to assume the beeb themselves lost interest)

Frankly there was a massive change in tone and (imho) a drop in quality for 7 and 8 anyway so I think there was also a big element of it having lost part of the audience. I was a massive fan back in the day - there was always talk of new things happening that never materialised (not just this instance). I probably still have some of the magazines from that time that printed ALL the rumours all the time. I wasn't a fan of Back to Earth and I've only seen minimal episodes since.

oh, totally - i don't even want to try and remember how many different movie rumours i read way back in the day :)

but yeah, i gave back to earth a shot (first part meh, second part had moments, third part i haven't seen bladerunner so i didn't get) and have barely watched anything (if anything at all) since, alas (partly because i might have grown out of watching it, partly because it was around then that i just couldn't be agged with watching anything at all specifically and haven't got back into that groove since)

Back to Earth was dreadful but series 11 onwards is surprisingly watchable. Doesn't quite hit the heights of the early seasons but it's better than I expected.

One delay can lead to another, as one person's schedule becomes free but another's ceases to be free, or funding problems come up, or something. Everything has to fall into place at the same time.

yes, I remember this. But it wasn't a season, it was 'Red Dwarf: The Movie' that was planned, but then delayed for this and many other reasons, and inevitably cancelled due to a lack of funding.

I knew it was something to do with Red Dwarf!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-16 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha fuck wow I had no idea he was in that.

still not gonna watch it but that's a good secret. I loled.

He's had such a weird career. Iirc he was absent from the end of the original run of Red Dwarf for a wee while because of pursuing other things.

I'll never not see him as Rimmer though. Or Mr Brittas (prob an even more obscure reference!)

(Anonymous) 2019-03-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as obscure as you might think! I still remember it

Glad some people do! It wasn't a favourite show of mine but it basically defined a time of my life where my parents started "letting" me watch grown up stuff - and I did feel grown up watching it!

Me too! One of my favourite parts of the movie. And I love that movie so that's saying a lot.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-17 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
Only know do I realise who he is lol

I loved him in TR, thought he was really hot. Not so hot (imo) as Rimmer though.
