I'm not entirely sure I believe the narrative here. People love to slant stories about movie stars to make them look like the worst kind of assholes possible (and sadly, many are indeed douchebags without needing 'extra' help), so I'd have to have some kind of independent confirmation that JRD actually *made* someone go in his place for something like that.

It was something he said tongue-in-cheek 'i'm a professional actor, so if it involves blood, I sent my stunt double'.

Listening to him talk on the commentaries, and listening to his cast-mates, I doubt very much he was a snobby jerk who ordered his stunt double to do anything.

He told an interviewer he sent his stunt double to get the tattoo. Pretty sure he was joking.
