145- Oh man, I want to do the same too!

173- The problem with dubs is that most dubbing companies don't make any effort. The voices are terrible and they dumb things down because hey, animation is obviously for kids! Look at the Naruto dub, or the DBZ one or, even worse, Excel Saga. They're awful and painful to watch. That's why I prefer them subbed. Mind you, some dubs are good (like Nadesico), but they're so few and far between :(

175- You're a terrible mother. It's a child, not an accessory. Try thinking about them rather than your obsessions. Yeah, cute name, but way to make your child feel like shit when he's grown up. He's not going to be a cute little baby forever.

186- One of the rules of horror movies: never have sex! :O

I second this. Other children are cruel and they always manage to find new an inventive ways to tease with "normal" names. Just imagine what they'll do with Sakura.

My name is Princess. Oddly, I hardly ever got made fun of for my name - perhaps it was impossible to make worse, or maybe it was just that there were so many other things wrong with me that I could be mocked for.

Hell, it wasn't even until the seventh grade that someone realized, "OLOL, I can call her 'Prince' for short and it's funny because she's a girl and I'm calling her a male title!" Maybe I was just lucky and grew up with some especially dumb bullies.

...Uh. I had a point here. Okay, this is it: If the name is really out there, people tend to ignore it or pity it instead. So yeah.

...I'd have to say you are very, very wrong to state that the companies don't make any effort. I know for a fact that that is not true, and here's an interesting tidbit for you: the dub voices have to be approved by the Japanese head honchos before they're given the green light to go ahead with the rest, so...yeah, while you may hate those dubs, don't say there was no effort put into them. Esp. Excel Saga--you realize the first Excel was replaced because she damaged her vocal chords recording for Excel?

Have you seen the dub for Gankutsuou, Paprika, Wolf's Rain or Koi Kaze? These are, hands down, the best dubs I've ever seen (and the best shows I've ever seen). You mention Naruto, DBZ and Excel Saga as having horrible dubs, but look at the subject material. The style of storytelling and animation and the character designs don't really call for subtle, low-key acting.

You really should check out the shows I mentioned above. Their dubs are absolutely fantastic. The Count of Monte Cristo's voice in English is asigdusndigniuhn *melt*

Btw, I should probably mention that I work with and know many of the people who work on the shows you mentioned above and they do take their dubbing work very seriously.
