I think carrying something inside you for 9 months gives you the right to name it whatever the fuck you want.

And this is the problem. It is a he, a human being, his own separate person. It's not something, it's someone. Big difference there. We're talking about a human being, a little one, but one anyway, not a dog or a cat or a car or a house or what have you. Children are not accessories. Children are not there for you make into tiny little extensions of yourself. Children are people.

The ability to name your child what you feel like is dehumanizing? You realizing by saying that a mother can't name a child what they want to, you've implied a fetus' rights supercede the mother's?

I suppose you could just wait until they're 4 and decide they want to be called "Superman" or whatever, that way you're not infringing on their God-given right to name themselves. Oh wait, that's not their right, it's their mother's.

Sorry if using the word "it" offends your delicate sensibilities. I used "it" because I don't believe in setting a gender at conception. In retrospect I should have used one of those gender-neutral pronouns(which people usually assume are misspellings) or maybe "the fetus".

Ugh, yes. I am of that opinion! But then again, where I come from we have a committee that approves all new names that are not already on record. Sometimes I shudder when I read their list of rejected names.

Your logic went into a rather silly direction there, btw.

I think that saying a mother can't name her child is silly, I guess silliness is relative.
