No, it's fine. I mean, yes, it's a cult hit from the 80s, but people have also decided to imbue it with apocalyptic levels of political significance for some reason, so it's all good.

I do think people have an inflated sense of the movie, but it wasn't a cult hit. It was the highest-grossing comedy film of its time (until Beverly Hills Cop) and the second highest-grossing movie of 1984. Comparatively, it made $229 million in North America in its original release (it got re-released in 1985), while Return of the Jedi made $253 million in 1983 and Back to the Future (top-grosser in 1985) made $211 million.

Agree and the sequel is just the same movie remade. We don’t need another one.
