I mean, obviously the huge HP fan who played Luna and was encouraged by JKR to get well when she was struggling with an eating disorder is going to look up to the author...but PETA is pretty despicable.

Peta sucks but for me personally there's a limit of how mad I can get at people for buying into the noble goal of protecting animals and not noticing the critical flaws in the group

They're about on par with the people who buy into the noble goal of "Making America Great Again" or "Taking Back Control" or "Deciding who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come" without looking into or caring about the critical flaws.

Ignorance will never be a good excuse for stupidity or cruelty.

I agree. There's a lot of understandable ignorance surrounding shady groups but if someone is adopting them as an ideal for their causes they really owe it to themselves to make sure they're not full of shit.

I think there is a degree of difference there in how fundamental the ideological problems with those groups are and the nobility of any of those goals.

If you're going to start supporting people, maybe do a few minutes of research to make sure that they're not luring someone's family dog out onto public property so they have an excuse to take it to their "shelter" and kill it.

I wonder if there's some cross-over between the kind of thinking involved in eating disorders and the kind of thinking involved in supporting PETA. Something about not taking up space...
