How much have you come across? Most circles I've been in have had that level of disconnect, acknowledging it isn't real and just for fun. If you go into astronaut or ABO fuckery, then CLEARLY it's not meant to be real or based on anything more than "this person is hot".

If "oh it's not meant to be real" is the sticking point, then yeah, we have different perspectives here. I'm saying that using a real person as a character at all is the sticking point. Most people writing about OCs just write about OCs.
