Agreed. Now, that doesn't mean it's AMAZING or necessarily better than the lesser-known animes- a lot of other things go into making a series huge and mainstream and popular- but if a ton of people love a series obviously there is something in the series that appeals to a ton of people. I knew someone who refused to have anything to do with any anime she considered "mainstream" (ie, having a ton of fans) because she automatically assumed it couldn't be anything but crap, and she wanted to feel elitist. It drove me bonkers.
