Ok, fine. Perhaps I shouldn't have worded it like that, the generalization was unfair. I'll concede that not all AU!Sheik folks are misogynistic Zelda-haters. Brava for you and your fandom friends for actually being reasonable. You *are* denying canon by believing Sheik is a separate person, but so what? Alternate universes are *fun.*

I have het ships, slash ships (m/m & f/f) and enjoy a bit of gender bending in my fandoms. (I blame Ranma for this). I would *love* to see fic where after 7 years of being Sheik, Zelda decides she enjoys being a boy. Or decides she likes *both* of her forms equally.

What I have a problem with is stuff like this (http://allionnara.livejournal.com/17884.html#cutid1), and this (http://www.fanart-central.net/pic_full-238125.html). That second person hasn't even ever *played* the games.

From the first link:

*That* is what bothers me.

You're right. People like that are stupid. And I never got why people bother taking part in a fandom (and bash female characters) when they haven't even played the game.

I'm like you, I enjoy both slash and het. I have to admit that I probably have more slash couples I like than het ones, but that doesn't make me hate every female character. Concerning Zelda, there's only one het pairing I cannot stand at all, but that's mainly because I'm not a big fan of childhood-romance gone lovers. Apart from that, if it's written well, I'm open for almost every pairing.

I must admit that I hardly read Zelda fics anymore, but I'd sure read such a fic. I have read a few very good Sheik/Link ones, though, where there's no Zelda-bashing and a good explanation as why Sheik is NOT Zelda.

For me, Zelda doesn't need to be Sheik to be awesome. I'm quite picky when it comes to characters (both male and female), but the thought that Zelda was useless never crossed my mind.
For me Zelda is cool regardless if she's Sheik or not.

And I have to apologise that I was quite aggressive and insulting in my last comment. It's just that I've read a lot of anti-yaoi fan statements the last days. I know that there are rabids out there, but there are sane ones too!
