How often do you you wash your clothes?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-21 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing (hoping) you wash your panties/briefs after every use... but everything else?

Re: How often do you you wash your clothes?

t-shirts, panties, socks - after one wear

blouses/shirts - after 2-3 wears

dress pants - after 4-5 wears

casual pants - after 2-3 wears

jeans - maybe once every two months

jackets - keep brushed & aired and spot clean only

bras - I plead the 5th.

most bras can't even go in washing machines

Yeah, I used to wash them on gentle in those mesh bags, but even that was hard on them.

I've never had a problem with washing bras as long as I remember to poke the cups out before they dry so they don't get weird wrinkles.

... I wash my bras all the time and have never had a problem?

what kind of bra do you wear? mine are almost all jogbras and I have to handwash them.

just your standard underwire bras from a couple of different manufacturers (calvin klein, wacoal, bali). i wash them gentle cycle on cold in one of those mesh bra bags and then hang them on a drying rack to dry.

Yeah, same here.

Socks and undies get washed every time.

Shirts after I’ve worn ‘em twice or once if it was hot out.

Skirts after two or three wearings.

Bras and wool sweaters when I notice they’re whiffy, but I need a dry day to hang them up outside afterwards, so very occasionally in winter I end up putting my more durable bras in with the rest of my laundry instead of hand washing and drying them.

I sweat a lot and can't really get away with multiple wears, sadly. Except jackets and blazers and sweaters.

underwear/socks/anything i work out in - after 1 wear
shirts/hoodies - twice a week
jeans - once a week

i don't own anything else so that's the whole list, lol

Underwear and socks after every wear. Bras, shirts, pants, jackets it depends on if I got sweaty or went anywhere dirty but I usually don't wear shirts more than two wears, pants more than three, and jackets more than five or so maybe. Big coats I normally just hang somewhere with good airflow.

Do you get your jackets dry cleaned every 5 wears? Or somehow launder them yourself?

I have lined blazers I've never laundered. I don't wear sleeveless tops, though.

Jackets I'm counting hoodies in which I can wash, but when I was wearing nice jackets for work I would take them off and hang them over my chair if I was just doing computer work. I got them dry cleaned pretty often maybe once a fortnight? and didn't wear the same one two days in a row to give them a chance to air. I didn't wear shoes two days in a row either because work flats get funky real quick that way.

Airing will really extend the wearability of jackets and shoes.

Bras tend to go on if I have sweated ect. I only have 3 because they cost so much due to backsize/vs/cupsize. So ngl a bra could go a week buuuut I only wear one when I am out because of how much back pain I get. Pants are daily. I change socks more than once a day because if they get any much on them from the house, which is possible as we have three dogs and you can't keep floors pristine even with a daily wash.

t-shirts 2 to 3 wears.

hoodies depends on how long i had had it on, if i had sweated. a hoody can last a couple of weeks.

leggings 4 to 5 uses.

Some may find that gross but if you think my work only gives me one top....eh.

"if I have sweated" is a totally reasonable measure IMO.

I think in the western world we tend to err on the side of over-laundering.

Indeed. I am probably being overly kind on my habits too. I mean for ages I honestly only had one work shirt and could work 6 in a row with weird shifts. You only had one gap to wash that shirt no matter what state it was in. And really, for millenia folk only had a few sets of clothes. I am sure we will live if the seat smell out a hoody has faded and we sling it on to grab bread and milk one last time before wash time.

Yep! And for millenia, the first step of doing laundry was "heat water." That would certainly make you think twice before throwing a shirt in the hamper, ha!

My leggings, under-top and bra I'll put in the wash after a week. Pants and socks are worn once and then washed. Tops are usually worn once as I get pretty sweaty on my underarms so I can't normally get away with multiple wears, but in the summer I'll often keep the same tank-top for up to a week before a wash.

Trousers are entirely dependent on how often I wear them because I wear leggings most of the time, so it's very typical for me to have a pair of trousers sat on my chair that I'll wear once a week or once a month. If they get worn all week then they'll get washed after that.

Pajamas are dependent on how sweaty I get as well, sometimes I can wear them all week but if I have a nightmare of if it's humid in the summer I'll change them immediately/after a few days.

Everything every time I wear them, except my big winter jacket, which gets washed about once a month. I only have about a week's worth of 'work' clothes, and frankly, sharing a bathroom with a bunch of firemen and random people who wander in to use it (spouses, kids, the guy fixing the door, the delivery guy), I feel grungy by the time I get home.

(I have Crohn's and so use the bathroom several times a day. Meh.)

I just do a big load of laundry on the weekend, it all fits in one cycle, yay!

Socks and underwear = 1 time

Shirts = stain or smell test, about 3 wears in winter and 1 in summer, because YOU try going out in 95% humidity and then passing the smell test

Pants = "I can't remember when I last washed these, and there aren't any dirty marks I can see... but I really need them for work today. Maybe next week."

I'm REALLY bad with pants.

Bras = "Huh, you're looser than you should be. In the wash with you!" if it's winter. If it's summer it's "OH GOD, THE BAND IS STILL WET FROM CAR SWEAT" and those things get washed very often.

Bedsheets = once a week, but I have a bunch of pillow cases and usually swap them out daily and add them to the weekly bedlinnen pile. Bathtowels get swapped out twice a week, hand towels once a week, and washclothes on an as-needed basis.

All white tops only get worn once before washing, but other tops can be worn twice before washing (unless I'm not planning to wear it again in the near future, then it goes right in the hamper). Jeans and all other pants go about 5 days before a wash, but it depends. Underpants only get worn once before washing, but boot socks get two wearings because I don't have enough pairs (I wear sandals in the summer, so no regular socks here). Bras get worn twice before washing. Gym clothes go in the hamper right away after 1 use.

I need to get my winter coat dry cleaned and wash my hats and warmest gloves, now that it isn't so cold!
