What would it be? This will be a completely tame version of whatever. You can also change the size (bigger or smaller).

It would be kind of cool to walk around with a huge cobra draped around my shoulders.

If I can upsize something that flies to be capable of carrying me I'm picking that. Maybe a raven because they're smart and a giant one would be pretty dramatic looking.

Dragon. If we must stick to things that actually exist, either a panther, a penguin, or a giant snake of some kind.

Black Falcon. They nest near where I used to live, and occasionally flew over or through my garden, and they're awesome. Though I don't think they would be pets, really, more like companion animals.

I hear crows are cool little guys, so assuming my cats would play nice with them, I'd happily give them house room and/or a comfy layover on their travels.

A crow would be awesome.

A dragon or gryphon or maybe a winged horse, big enough to ride. If we’re stuck with real world critters, then a few ravens. I’d say a few ravens large enough to ride, but knowing ravens, their diet would then consist of absolutely anything (or anyone) they thought looked tasty.

My childhood imaginary friend was a gigantic white tiger. Handy in a confrontation and you can also use him as a portable mattress!
