Roxas is 14.

Axel is 24 at the youngest, probably 26 or older. We were okay with it back in the day because we were the naive 14-year-old who didn't see anything wrong with it. Then we grew up and realized, "Huh, that's kinda fucked up."

Those of us who played the game and shipped it when it came out still ship it, for the most part. The fans who think it's fucked up and should not be shipped because shipping fucked up ships makes you a bad person are youngins who weren't old enough to hold a controller when KH2 came out. It's a generational difference, not a case of growing older and wiser.

I don't mind that people still ship it, I can just see why people find it really fucked nowadays. I'm 29 now, and I shipped it like whoa way back when. Then I grew up and realized things like this ship were used to groom me (by a guy with roughly the same gap between Axel and Roxas as me and him!). Because it was clearly okay.

It happens. That doesn't make you a bad person, but it does mean I'm gonna keep an eye out because people can and do use ships like these to groom younger kids.

This new wave of antis who are compelled to write essays and attack people is new, but there have always been people in KH fandom who found Axel/Roxas to be squicky.

Get off your high horse, no one back in the day thought that Axel was 24. Look at fic and stuff from that time- he's written as older, yes, but usually only by a couple years. Maybe not old enough to be a direct peer, but not so old as to be predatory. The appeal isn't about the age gap, it's about the missed connections and existential angst, and stupid boys being stupid boys.

Nomura himself has been notoriously bad about establishing timelines, ages, or how those things work- some of the nobodies look visibly aged from their time as nobodies, others don't, Ventus and Aqua still look exactly like they did in BBS, Terra aged as Xehanort/Ansem and then unaged when he got to go back to being himself...

It's perfectly fine to not like akuroku, but don't go rewriting the timeline to make it seem like everyone was just handwaving shit. And even if they were, who gives a flying fuck? It's fandom, not some megablockbuster that's changing the way people interact with the ethics of death and rebirth as it pertains to the age of consent lol

Yeah the general fanon-agreed age range for Axel was somewhere from 17 to 19. If he's "officially" 24, that news came out way after KH2 did (I wouldn't know, I don't keep up with the franchise much anymore) And Roxas was 16, not 14. But you're right, it doesn't even matter what age they are because they're not real and it's fucking fandom. Shipping characters that are actually 14 and 24 has always been normal up until now, and fandom was better off before antis throwing around the word "pedophile" showed up to tell all of us how wrong we were and how much we deserve to die for shipping icky ships.

We got an age when BBS came out unless you legitimately think Lea and Isa were nine in those games when they were the same age as Ventus (who is now word of god 16). Making Axel, ten years later in KH1 26. He's closer to 28 now. And as someone that age, while I could ship it, it's still pretty easy to see why people my age would be uncomfortable with that age gap of over ten years when one's a young teen.

This. Most people who ship AkuRoku started shipping it in KH2 when we didn't have any confirmed age for Axel and people just assumed he was an older teenager because why would they think anything else? He didn't look THAT much older.

BBS was released nine years ago. AkuRoku was still amazingly popular even though by the we knew from that that Axel wasn't an older teen anymore.

of course if we do go that route though it makes the wanking about terra/aqua/ventus hilarious because despite all the crying about ventus being involved makes it pedo, ventus is potentially thousands of years older than aqua and terra.
