(Anonymous) 2019-03-23 04:39 am (UTC)(link)I'm reserving judgment as to Depp's side of the allegations until there is actual proof. Like Heard's photo, restraining order, and judgment win. At the very least I think it was a mutually abusive relationship, and I have no idea why people are so quick to jump on "obviously Depp is totally innocent of everything!"

(Anonymous) 2019-03-23 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)Well, plenty are doing the opposite too. "Obviously Heard is totally innocent of everything!"
But for discussion's sake, I think it's combination of the knee-jerk reaction, and black-or-white thinking. If one is innocent, the other must be guilty, and vice versa. When it comes to things like abuse, I think people are afraid of the gray areas. Like maybe they think considering any of the in-between will somehow diminish everything that abuse is, or take away from victims and the trauma they experience, or paint all victims in a certain light. Maybe a fear of society going back to the "well, he/she was asking for it" garbage that justifies no abusive behavior.
