This. The canon is still being created and added to the game. Tracer has voice lines and sprays alluding to her girlfiend. 76 has a spray.

They are still release comics and videos updating the story. For general personalities and interactions, they all have in-game interactions. That is how you know stuff like Zarya is racist (speciest?) against omnics.

Also, knowing Blizzard they will eventually release some novelizations of their lore like they have done with every other game they have.

Yeah, the game itself is a continuing series... it's like if you found out 76 is gay in episode 10 of a serial, not after the show is done then the author mentioned he had a boyfriend the whole time.

If that happened, I bet everyone's reaction would also be "where the fuck was that in canon, and why didn't you put it in the canon?" and I'd think they'd be right to ask that.
